Live Score Card: Boston @ Toronto Game -3

Boston Red Sox v Toronto Blue Jays
Thursday, August 12, 2010
12:35 PM Rogers Centre
John Lackey v Brad Mills

Notes:

Also 'threading' at Joy of Sox.

Descided late that I wanted to score this game.

After missing last nights game (08/11/10) I found that even with 3 pages of stats posted at espn for every game, a sense of a flow of the game was missing. The games only error was overlooked on the 'Box Score' page, I had to go the the 'Play by Play' page, where a long hand narrative of the game is recorded, to see who committed it.

The only way to record the character of a game is with a complete score card. Why aren't they published in the old media papers, and why not now at MLB and others, like ESPN or Baseball-Reference?

I guess only a small percentage of the population know how to read them; which is odd because if you played baseball someone at some point probably handed you the score card as they left to take their at-bat, and said, "Here, score."

You begrudenly took the clip board and the pencil because there was no choice; maybe you messed it up and someone had to fix it later, but you filled in the little boxes that show a run scored... so you know what a score card looks like, and you understand the lay out, with a little practice you'd soon be able to read one, and with that you'd probably want to try your hand at scoring one.

Perhaps it's a catch 22 situation; outlets don't publish complete score cards, so people don't read them - thus people don't know how to read them - therefore outlets don't publish them.

The official scorer at each game keeps a score card I assume, most announcers who are worth anything to the game keep one; MLB could publish those?

It would be of benefit to the game.
